Papers, Please graphic props

A series of graphic props I made based on the documents from the indie video game Papers, Please by Lucas Pope.

Papers, Please was always a fascinating game to me. At its core, it's rather simple: process documents at a border checkpoint – decide who is let into Arstotzka and who is not. But as tensions between neighbouring countries arise, the documents become more complicated and greater in numbers.

With their simple 32-bit graphics, I wanted to realize the documents and make them as close to Cold War era/East German documents as possible while keeping the surprising colourfulness from Arstotzkan documents. This project was a lot of fun, researching documents from the time, figuring out what fonts were used, how things were written, what materials were used and finding ways I can achieve the look.
